For more than 80 years now, Skoda has made a habit of offering a trim called Monte Carlo for some of its more successful models. Usually, this version becomes the top of the range in the lineup, and is supposed to be a tribute to the carmaker’s rally history. This year, Monte Carlo will make its way onto the first-ever city SUV wearing the Skoda logo, the Kamiq.
To date, there has been only one other SUV that received the Monte Carlo treatment, the Yeti. And just as was the case back then, it’s all about extra features and the clever use of the color black.

The Kamiq draped in Monte Carlo clothing comes with black sprayed over the grille, front bumper, the wing mirror caps, roof rails, side sills, and the Skoda lettering on the tailgate. Complementing the new color scheme are 17-inch alloy wheels in a unique design, tinted side windows, and a panoramic roof.

On the inside, the trim adds sports seats, a multifunction sports steering wheel wrapped in perforated leather and LED ambient lighting.

The Monte Carlo trim is available for all engine variants of the Kamiq and will be seen on the road starting the fourth quarter of the year.

The SUV is powered by three gasoline and one diesel engines, all direct-injected, turbocharged and featuring a start/stop system. The gasoline lineup starts with the 1.0 TSI that develops 95 PS and ends with the 1.5 TSI that develops 150 PS. The diesel, a 1.6 TDI, has been rated at 115 ps and 250 Nm of torque.

Aside from the Kamiq, the Monte Carlo trim will be available for the other brand new car launched by Skoda in the past year, the Scala.

Both cars will be on display next week (starting September 10) at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany. Pricing info for the two was not announced.
