Novelty value plays a significant role when choosing a car to enter in a road rally event. For example, a slammed Golf R might seem a little more unusual in America, while a Mustang or Camaro gets extra attention compared to domestic sportscars in Europe.
That's just the way the world works, and it's why Team Anastasia Date chose old Camaros for the 2015 edition of the Gumball 3000. Likewise, the owner of this Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 must have thought it was perfect to show off.

Everybody thinks Americans are lazy for making only cars that go fast in a straight line. However, keeping a 720 horsepower Mustang under control is harder than you might think.

That's how much power this last-gen Mustang is making from its supercharged 5.8-liter V8 engine, thanks to the guys at Shelby and an SVT Package.

Going up against an old, front-wheel drive Ford Focus ST with a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine, the Shelby owner (presumably German, judging from the plates) must have thought he will look like a total hero. However, he ended up being the zero.

Official drag strips in America have a thick carpet of rubber on them and are sometimes heated using torches before the race starts. But on this cold runway, the super-powered Ford struggles to find traction, slides and almost crashes into the Focus.

Luckily, the ST driver was paying attention and pulled sharply to the left of the track, avoiding the impact. After that, the Shelby drive gets the hang of it, successfully racing another Mustang, a 911 Turbo, and an Audi RS7.

See, that's the difference between a streetable car and one that needs to be driven very slowly. The Focus ST drive not only was in complete control of his machine, but also saved the day, while the Shelby owner clearly didn't have enough experience drag racing his oper-powered machine.
