Police wanted to pull over a female driver for overspending. However, she had other plans. She kept pressing the throttle pedal, so the police started pursuing her. To get rid of the cars that followed her, she drove her BMW straight into the ocean.
The female driver is now in police custody following the 30-mile chase that ended in the Pacific Ocean close to Venice Beach. Everything had started at around 11:21 PM on Saturday night when the police tried to pull over a first-generation BMW X3 near Temple City Boulevard in Los Angeles. The woman behind the steering wheel refused to stop and fled the police.

29.8 miles and 40 minutes later, she came to a stop against her will as she hit the water after she drove off the edge of the road and flew into the ocean. A surveillance camera on the pier caught the entire scene on film.

A Coast Guard boat was immediately right beside her and brought her to safety while a helicopter was in the air ready to assist if necessary.

Two Boston Terriers were with her in the car during the chase. One escaped the car at the last moment before it went into the water. Lifeguards managed to save the other one. Both were handed over to the Animal Control officers. The dogs are now safe at the local animal shelter, and considering how they became famous, it won't be a problem finding homes for the two.

The woman who plunged with her silver BMW into the water is now facing charges of evading the police and of animal cruelty, plus overspending.

The BMW X3 was towed away by a tractor and will probably be labeled as a write-off. However, we have seen cars getting saved after falling into the water before. Unless the first-gen BMW is too old and too costly to fix. Otherwise, we are going to see it on the used car market.

Police started an investigation to find out why the woman tried to flee the police in the first place and how she thought that driving into the ocean might be a way out.

We usually report stories about drivers ending up in the waves because they try to show off, forget to activate the parking brake, put the vehicle in Park, or just blindly follow the route indicated by the navigation.

The latest was a Toyota that slid off the pier during the driver's lunch break at the Blossom Street Pier Ferry Terminal in Lynn, Massachusetts. No one got hurt, but the car was most likely a write-off.

Last year, the Essex Police posted a photo of a car nearly entirely submerged in water in Dunmow. The driver evacuated himself and swam back to the shore. He eventually told the officers that he followed the recommendations of the navigation app that he was using at the time of the event.
