Second-Gen Opel Grandland Grows Larger, Has Both ICE and EV Options Under the Hood

After the renamed Crossland, now the revived Frontera, the German automaker Opel presents the all-new Grandland, larger and more spacious inside, twinned with Peugeot's 3008 and the next iteration of the Jeep Compass.
Although many automotive enthusiasts will say that Opel's new Grandland simply aligns with the latest design philosophy also present already on the new Corsa and Corsa Electric hatchbacks, Mokka and Mokka Electric subcompact CUV, the entire Astra (hatch, Sports Tourer, PHEV, GSe, Electric) family plus the all-new Frontera, the company promises the Opel Experimental concept actually inspires the larger crossover. However, there's one trait it shares with the rest of the lineup – it has both ICE and EV options.

Designed, engineered, and made in Germany, the flagship Opel CUV is now based on the all-new STLA Medium platform and has native BEV abilities – thus, the all-new Grandland Electric features a fresh flat battery pack design and is tipped to arrive with a battery of 98 kWh and a big range of up to or around 700 km (435 miles). Its main features are also quite varied – it has a new Intelli-Lux Pixel HD lighting system with more than 50k individual elements, interior fabrics made of recycled PETs, as well as many storage compartments, and a new "semi-transparent Pixel Box."

Naturally, since Stellantis loves economies of scale, the Opel Grandland is twinned with the latest Peugeot 3008 and the upcoming Jeep Compass. However, it's unmistakable as an Opel (or Vauxhall in the UK) thanks to the 3D Vizor with illuminated Blitz logo, the lit 'Opel' letters at the rear, AGR seats, and a new interior arrangement featuring a fully digital wide instrument cluster plus an ever-larger 16-inch central display. Compared to the outgoing model, the all-new Grandland is 173 mm (6.8 in.) longer, 64 mm (2.5 inches) wider, and 19 mm (0.7 in.) taller – now standing at 4,650 mm (183.1 in.), 1,905 mm (75 in.), and 1,660 mm (65.4 in.) in length, width, and height.

The wheelbase is also longer, of course – standing in at 109.6 inches (2,784 mm). As such, both the trunk and rear passenger space has increased, and the rear seats can be folded down 40:20:40 for a maximum load volume of up to 1,641 liters or 57.95 cubic feet. Aside from the Grandland Electric, Opel also offers the upcoming choice of a Grandland Plug-In Hybrid with up to 85 km (53 miles) of zero-emissions range, as well as the Grandland Hybrid with 48-volt technology. Last but not least, the company has included perks like the unique technology of a frequency-selective damping system plus an extensive array of driver assistance systems, including the Intelli-Drive 2.0 semi-automatic driving aid.

It offers innovations that were first seen on this extraordinary concept car. The new Grandland will, therefore, strengthen our position in the important C-SUV segment," said Opel CEO Florian Huettl.
