Twenty years ago, Renault introduced the Scenic and they celebrated that fact with a brand new model in Geneva. Unfortunately, Spanish carmaker SEAT doesn't have the funds to do the same thing for the Alhambra.
Instead, we are getting the 2016 Alhambra 20th Anniversary as a thank you to the loyal fans that have bought one of these aging MPV models. As you may have realized already, the compact family car got a bit of extra equipment and got some bright red paint out from the mothballs.

It's called Romance Red, and it's specific to this model. The VW Sharan's Spanish cousin also receives 20th Anniversary logos on the C-pillars, doors sills and seat covers, 17-inch matching alloy wheels with a two-tone paintjob, and dark tinted windows.

Even though I know it's an old car, I would definitely consider buying one if I were in the market for an MPV. Why? Because the diesel engine is tried and tested, it can store up to 2,430 liters of stuff, and it has sliding rear doors, unlike something like a Mercedes B_Class.

The press release doesn't talk about this, but the Alhambra 20th Anniversary comes with something else we approve of, a powertrain consisting of a 2.0 TDI engine with 184 PS, a DSG gearbox, and the Haldex5-based 4Drive system. If you are keen drivers like us, you'll know that it's a definite advantage over rivals like the Renault Grand Scenic, Citroen C4 Picasso, and Opel Zafira.

But we digress; let's just talk about what the 20th Anniversary has. Inside, the MPV features dark Alcantara trim with contrast stitching in "light corn silk" thread, massage front seats with thicker bolsters and a keyless entry system. It also comes with navigation, Full Link connectivity and one of those fancy tailgates that open when you wave your foot under it. It's great for when you have your hands fool with a large Ikea package.
