The Brazilian city of Sao Paulo, the 7th larges in the world, with a population of over 11-million, has begun a Nissan Leaf Taxi pilot program in an effort to gather data for a future, larger scale program to be adopted in the city.
This program is a collaboration between Sao Paulo Municipality, the Renault-Nissan Alliance, AES Eletropaulo and Adetax (Association of Taxi Fleet of Sao Paulo). The fleet of EV taxis will be 10-strong at first, in an effort to see whether a larger scale version of the project would be feasible or not.

In order to replenish the Leaf’s 160 km (100-mile) range, 15 charging points will be placed throughout the city, 5 of which will be quick-charge stations. It seems that the current generation of EVs may have found its true calling, as a taxi cab for the world's congested and polluted cities - a role it will fulfill more than admirably.
