Until now, that is, when the manufacturer's top notch, Jan-Ake Jonsson, stepped in and said the talks have been narrowed down and only two bidders remain in the race. Of course, no names have been given regarding their identity.
"Now we are negotiating with just two parties," he told Dagens Industry. "This can go fast now and should absolutely be wrapped up in a maximum of two weeks,"he said, adding that a letter of intent may be signed by mid-June.
Even if, officially, no names have been given, local media reports that the two remaining bidders are Swedish Koenigsegg and U.S. financier Ira Rennert and his Renco Group. There is, supposedly, a third party involved, none other than the soon defeated Italian manufacturer Fiat.
The rumor surrounding the first two parties involved has been around from some time now. As we reported late last month, Koenigsegg was given as a sure bet in the battle by business daily Dagens Industri.
What's surprising is that no Chinese manufacturer is said to be among the suitors. For months, different Chinese manufacturers have been tied to Saab, but none seems to have made it through.
On the other hand, no one expected Hummer to go to Sichuan Tengzhong either, so it would not be a surprise if an Asian company may after all be involved.
