With the production version of the gorgeous Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe (C217) to hit the 2014 Geneva Motor Show in less than two weeks from now, the engineers from Stuttgart are still hard at work testing the AMG version of the model.
Set to sport both the 63 AMG and the 65 AMG engines from its sedan brother, the upcoming uber-coupe in AMG guise will be unveiled most likely at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, in October.

Just like the S 63 AMG, the model will feature the nameplate with and without 4Matic all-wheel drive, depending on the market it is being sold on.

For example, the S 63 AMG Coupe 4Matic will cost extra compared with the rear-wheel drive variant in Europe, while the United States will not get the rear-wheel drive version at all. Just like the case is with the sedan, right-hand drive countries are doomed not to get the 4Matic system but are at least blessed with the highly-acclaimed Magic Body Control system with Road Surface Scan.

The S 65 AMG Coupe might be introduced at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show, featuring the same six-liter, twin-turbocharged V12 as the S 65 AMG sedan.

With no less than 630 hp and an electronically-limited torque of 1,000 Nm (738 lb ft) of torque, we are expecting slightly better performance for the Coupe compared with the sedan, but we are no longer holding our horses.

The S 63 AMG Coupe featured in the following video is using the same M157 engine from the four-door, its 585 hp and 900 Nm (664 lb ft) of torque being more than enough to make it go from naught to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.3 seconds in the rear-wheel drive version or 3.9 seconds in the 4Matic variant.

We are not entirely sure what type of drive train the camouflaged prototype depicted in the footage has, but we are guessing that it might be 4Matic, since not even the “regular” S 500 Coupe will have a rear-wheel version at the beginning of sales.

Not taking into account the wheels and the exhaust tips, you can expect the production version's exterior to be quasi-identical with the S 500 Coupe with AMG package in the adjacent photo gallery.
