We have to admit it, one of the bikes we were expecting to meet in the flesh at EICMA next week is the all-new Royal Enfield Himalayan adventure machine. Tough luck, though, it seems that nobody gets to see it in Milan at the EICMA 2015, as Royal Enfield announces that the Himalayan will not debut this year.
This comes as a bit of a surprise, especially as the latest Royal Enfield Himalayan spy shots we got our hands on showed the bike on the assembly line, meaning that RE was capable of actually delivering the first complete units.

The previous event where the Himalayan was supposed to break cover was the 2015 Rider Mania in India, this November, but we all believed that Royal Enfield might have a major edge over the competition if they showed the bike at EICMA, too.

A new date was announced for February 2016. Royal Enfield plans to introduce the Himalayan at the Indian Auto Expo show.

Oil cooling added to the Royal Enfield Himalayan

Even though initial reports mentioned an air-cooled engine, we saw a photo that contains a small oil cooler mounted in front of the cylinder, on the left side. Not THE most efficient cooling method, at least when compared to true liquid cooling, but this oil radiator does indeed work quite well, as the Suzuki DR650 showed us during the last two decades or so.

Remains to be seen whether the Royal Enfield Himalayan's estimated 28 horsepower and 32 Nm of torque will be enough to make customers in the Western markets go for it. Some riders believe that it will be a successful bike among customers in search of an A2-compliant machine that's light and that can tread on rough grounds, while carrying a significant amount of luggage.

Frankly, this delay is making us even more anxious. We're not Himalayan fans by a long shot, but this bike is so contradictory that we might actually like it. Stay put for more info soon.
