Rolls-Royce has just revealed the car that the luxury carmaker teased on Wednesday. It is a Black Badge Ghost Ekleipsis Private Collection, limited to just 25 examples, all sporting a 0.5-carat diamond, an animated Starlight Headliner, and an orange and black color combo inside-out.
Rolls-Royce gave a hint at what was to come by calling it 'a celestial phenomenon" in a video teaser. Now they come up with the explanation for the mystery video that previewed the new version. The Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ekleipsis Private Collection is inspired by the drama, spectacle, and mystery of a solar eclipse, they claim. The launch of this new version coincides with the annular solar eclipse, set to take place on October 14 and visible in several parts of the world.
Rolls-Royce designed a Bespoke fascia for the model, displaying stages of a total solar eclipse and integrating a Bespoke timepiece inset with a 0.5-carat diamond. There are 1,846 laser-etched ‘stars,’ all arranged in a symbolic timeline of a total eclipse. Choosing the position and intensity of every ‘star’ was entirely the responsibility of a single designer, who needed over 100 hours to complete the work,
The model wears the Lyrical Copper exterior color, a bespoke finish which incorporates powdered copper pigment. The technique makes the color look darker than it actually is until the moment it catches the light. That is the moment it produces a rich iridescence. Mandarin contrasting inserts show up below the Pantheon Grille, while the brake calipers sport the same shade.
Also Mandarin was chosen for the hand-painted coastline, which includes an abstract representation of the transition from sunlight as the Moon prepares to cover the Sun. The occupants of the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ekleipsis will sit in the "Panoramic Sunset" bi-colored and perforated leather seats. There are over 200,000 individual perforations.
Illuminated tread pads, umbrellas with Mandarin piping placed in the coach doors, as well as unique indoor motor car cover displaying the Private Collection’s woodmark are on the menu.
To enhance that celestial feeling, the animated Starlight Headliner enhances the theatrical feeling on board. It features a special animation which replicates a solar eclipse, when the silhouette of the Moon completely obscures the light of the Sun.
The headliner includes a circle of 940 stars, surrounded by 192 illuminated ‘stars.’ The animation stays visible for seven minutes and 31 seconds. That is the longest duration of a total solar eclipse. When the time is up, the entire constellation of ‘stars’ is restored.
Even though the car has just been revealed, all the 25 examples have already been allocated to customers all around the world. Rolls-Royce does not mention the price, but in the United States, the luxury sedan starts at $351,000.
