Rolls Royce and Maserati Plan Record Sales

The two luxury cars manufacturers Maserati and Rolls Royce hope to be the exception to the rule and not experience any decreased sales this year, despite of the raging economic storm, Autonews reported.

Rolls Royce expect sales in 2009 to be situated at roughly the same level as the ones in 2008 and even goes as far as expressing a hope no one dared to speak out so far: sales could double next year, based on the rebound of the economy. Their hopes are fueled by projected success of the upcoming 200EX. Graeme Grieve, sales and marketing director of Rolls-Royce forecasts an increase in sales of 50 to 100 percent.

Tom Purves, Rolls Royce CEO backs his colleague and says the company will sell no less than 3,000 units a year. "If we were in a perfectly normal economic condition and we have the full production of the Phantom and RR4, we would be able to sell 3,000 cars," Purves was quoted as saying by the aforementioned source. RR4 is the internal code name given by the manufacturer to the 200EX.

As for Maserati, the Italian manufacturer registered a 30 percent drop in sales in the first quarter, but this is no deterrent for its representatives to hope things will get better. Backed by the release of new models, Maserati hopes to at least match the record sales it registered in 2008.

The Italian company sold 7,353 units in 2008 and hopes the launch of the new six-speed automatic GranTurismo coupe and the Granturismo convertible will maintain the same levels.
