Robbie Maddison has been featured here on multiple occasions, one more spectacular than the other, but his recent stunt feat called Pipe Dream blows the others out of the water. And that is because Robbie IS actually taking one of his KTM motorcycles to Tahiti, to tackle the sea and the surf waves.
It sounds a bit crazy and one fo the shortest ways to destroy a bike, but the video after the jump will prove the contrary. Remember the awesome snowmobile-on-a-lake video of Finnish stunt rider Antti Leppänen we showed to you last week? Well, prepare for something even crazier!

We knew about Maddison's propension for the most insane tricks, such as jumping a bike from a ski ramp or wreaking havoc in an airplane graveyard, but riding a motorcycle on the open sea and even more riding a surf wave is a completely different story.

No less than 30 bikes were sunk until the final prototype was ready to "float"

Now, developing a bike that can actually ride on the changing surface of the sea requires a lot of testing and the machines went down around 30 times. Several types of motorcycles have been tested until the designers finally settled for the mighty two-stroke KTM 250SX.

The bike received a rear tire for tackling the sand or volcanic ash dunes , alongside skis that help keeping the bike afloat. One of the tests was close to ending tragically when the bike hit Robbie in the back while going down. The blow knocked the wind out of him as he went underwater, but he managed to stay focused and return to the surface unharmed.

Enjoy watching this surreal stunt, and by all means, don't try to imitate Robbie Maddison in this one.
