Ever since the Fracas event went on, and Jeremy Clarkson messed with his fellows’ plans, the Top Gear stars have been trying separate paths. James May even considered cooking and playing the flute for a while. Sure, in real life both him and fellow Richard Hammond decided to cash in their assets because, let’s face it, being famous makes your belongings value more in an auction.
We already told you people of the April 26 Bonhams auction, where some very interesting lots containing bikes from the personal collections of James May, and Richard Hammond are going under the hammer. It turns out it’s not the only wheeled machine one of the BBC stars decided to sell. We just stumbled upon a quite renown piece of machinery the Top Gear presenter bought some time ago.

Yes, we are looking at Richard Hammond’s 1987 Land Rover 110 V8, an icon that started its life as an airport fire tender and later went through a bunch of modifications. Apparently in 2002, it went through its first customization process at Land Rover Centre of Huddersfield, an auto shop that prepped it for a television show.

Following its moment of celebrity, the Land Rover Hammond named “Buster” remained under the star’s ownership as he’d enlisted numerous specialist firms to further improve the car in 2008.

Mather Collectable Motor Cars Auction House claims the vehicle eventually took £70,000 ($104,000/ EUR97,269) to complete. Under the bonnet, there’s a 4.5-liter V8, 250 bhp engine produced by renowned Marque specialists JE Engineering. Other features include a bespoke, chassis mounted roll cage supplied by QT services while the suspension is equally as heavy duty.

Surprisingly the asking price was £18,950 ($28,382/ EUR 26,332), but we’re not sure how big the biggest bidder ended up paying for it.
