Even if it officially saw daylight in the early 2000s, the SLR McLaren is one of the most popular supercars ever released, with tens, or maybe hundreds, of aftermarket variants released for tuning fanatics from all over the world. But even so, tuning companies continue to rely their projects on the SLR McLaren, establishing a so-called “horsepower war” between their own, unique and impressively modified model. The last creation is signed by Renntech and represents the first model in a series especially planned to celebrate the company's 20th anniversary.
Despite the fact that some people say 666 would be a more appropriate name for such a powerful car given the association with the number of the beast and the incredible high power developed by its engine, the 777 is a heavily revised SLR McLaren, as the tuning firm said in a press statement.
And the car is indeed a massively modified model, sporting all kinds of lightweight elements that could reduce the overall weight and, in the same time, boost the engine performance. The best example comes from the carbon fiber chassis which, in combination with enhanced aerodynamics and improved downforce, raises the total engine power of 777 hp.
"This 777 concept is really an all-new car that makes use of the advanced carbon fiber chassis of the SLR McLaren. It can be described as a street-legal track car, or something closer to what the enthusiasts were hoping for from the SLR, originally - which is more a successor to the McLaren F1,” Hartmut Feyhl, president of Renntech.
The car is powered by a 5.4-liter supercharged Kompressor V8 engine that boasts both internal and external upgrades plus a significantly improved cooling system to resist to very high speeds. In addition, the 777 wears high-performance Nitto NT-05 tires, according to specifications provided by Renntech.
"The 777 will be a very special car. The first example is being built now, and will be ready this Spring. We intend to build a few different extreme vehicles like this for our 20th anniversary, with each one being strictly limited to 20 units. They are all very exciting projects, and we will be announcing them throughout the year, as they approach completion,” Harmut explained.
