Rumors claiming Mercedes is working on a special SLR Stirling Moss proved to be true as the German manufacturer has just confirmed the model and provided a bunch of speculation-free details. As said in the previous report, Mercedes will manufacture only 75 units of the car, with production due to start in June 2009, one month after the SLR Roadster will be discontinued.

“This extreme concept makes the new high-performance sports car a legitimate bearer of the name of the British motor racing legend and Mille Miglia record-holder Stirling Moss, who drove the legendary Mercedes-Benz SLR racing cars from victory to victory in 1955,” Mercedes said in a statement released to the press.

The SLR Stirling Moss was especially designed to sport “an exciting, pronounced arrow-shaped form” that would provide the vehicle enhanced aerodynamics, helping it to run with a maximum speed of 350 km/h. The side skirts are very high, just like on the model driven by Stirling Moss in 1955 at Mille Miglia.

“The core values of both the historical and the present-day SLR models include an exciting new design, innovative technology, high-class materials displaying perfect craftsmanship, and, above all: a unique driving experience for all the senses,” Mercedes reviewed some of the most important attributes of the newly-announced car.

The lack of roof and windows provide an exciting experience, Mercedes said, while the small two air scoops still protect the passengers from insects or dust. Unfortunately, this limited edition model is only available for some SLR clients at an whopping price of 750,000 euros. Production of the Stirling Moss will cease in December 2009, Mercedes concluded.
