Dodge is in the process of renewing its family of vehicles. The Alfa Romeo Tonale-based Hornet is the newest entry in their portfolio, finding itself sitting next to the larger Durango after they discontinued the Charger and Challenger at the end of 2023.
Speaking of the Durango, it is also an old product. The third generation entered production back in 2010, using the same construction as the old Mercedes ML, GL, and the WK2 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Assembly takes place at the Detroit factory in Michigan, and the SUV comes with different powertrains, with the most exciting being the Hellcat motor.

The supercharged 6.2-liter V8 powers the SRT Hellcat, SRT Hellcat Plus, and SRT Hellcat Premium versions of the 2024 Dodge Durango. It produces an identical 710 horsepower (720 ps/530 kW) in all three versions, delivering the output to the all-wheel drive system through an automatic transmission with eight gears. Pricing starts at $95,995, going up to at least $107,200 for the Premium.

Mind you, paying a six-digit sum for a Durango is not for everyone. On the other hand, it is much more powerful than something along the lines of a BMW X5 M Competition. If you must know, the output is on par with the dropped McLaren 720S, and it is also superior to the Lamborghini Urus, which boasts 657 hp (666 ps/490 kW) in the S and more track-focused Performante and comes just five hp (5 ps/4 kW) short of the Ferrari Purosangue.

What does the future hold for this nameplate? Reports indicate that the current one will live through 2025, and its successor will arrive the following year. To no one's surprise, it will feature battery-electric power, with the exact numbers to be announced in due course. On top of that, it will also launch with good-old gasoline power, thus targeting a broader audience and likely becoming more popular than the current one.

Now, while Dodge continues to keep the design of the next-gen Durango a secret, several rendering artists have tried to decipher the mystery. One of the latest was Kelsonik on Instagram, who imagined the model with an entirely new face. If it looks familiar, it is because it was sourced from the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept, a zero-emission muscle car previewing the design of the upcoming Charger, which is due at the end of this year.

Overall, the CGI proposal is not bad. However, as you can assume, it is anything but realistic. No one may know what the next Durango will look like, but you can bet that it won't have anything in common with the said study. But if it did, would you buy it, especially with a punchy motor under the hood, likely assisted by one or two turbochargers?
