Anyone with a slight thing for crossovers can tell you that the Volkswagen Tiguan is in the third generation. The latest came out last fall, and deliveries on the right side of the pond are scheduled to kick off in the first quarter of 2024.
But where does that put the US model? Under the question mark for now, because the 2025 MY is expected to add the Allspace suffix and use the same platform as China's Tayron. As a result, it won't have much in common with its overseas sibling other than the Tiguan nameplate.

Europe's 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan is based on the MQB Evo architecture, thus bidding farewell to the MQB A2 platform of its predecessor that's shared with the Tayron, B8 Passat, SEAT Tarraco, Skoda Kodiaq, and Audi Q3. The powertrain family is still vast and comprises various gasoline and diesel mills and partially electrified assemblies, with the most expensive ones featuring all-wheel drive.

In the looks department, we think the Wolfsburg brand's design team could have done a better job. If anything, the latest Tiguan kind of looks like a Chinese knockoff, so it doesn't do justice to its predecessor, which was more appealing. Apparently, we're not the only ones who believe the second-gen was better looking, as so does PoloTo on YouTube, which just came up with a few renderings of the compact crossover that build on the older iteration.

As a result, the digital illustrations portray the car with brand-new front and rear ends that appear to have been based on the styling of the second generation. It has a wide grille going from one headlight to another, a reinterpreted front bumper, and fresh lines on the profile. Mind you, a lot has stayed the same on the sides, which is another indicator that it was based on the second and not the third and latest generation Tiguan.

Things are on the evolutionary side when it comes to the back end, too, where it features a pair of new taillights that are larger. The trim between them is part of the novelties, and the rear license plate holder was moved to the bumper from the tailgate. The lower part of the bumper was also redesigned, and for a more hairy-chested appearance, it still has plastic cladding on the lower parts of the body. We're not wheel experts, yet it seems the pictured set was inspired by the latest iteration.

Now, we certainly wouldn't be mad if the 2024/2025 Tiguan looked like this, as we feel this styling does more justice to the popular model, and we think you feel the same, too, don't you? Drop a line below and tell us if you prefer the second generation's design over the third one.
