It seems that taking down SEAT's Nurburgring record with the limited edition Megane 275 Trophy-R is not the full extent of Renault's sporty ambitions for this year. The French company has just released the first teaser photo for their next creation, called the Renault Sport Trophy show car.
The model is two months away from being unveiled at the Moscow International Automobile Salon, which starts on August 27th. Base on the teaser image, we think it's a replacement for the Megane Trophy, which has beed doing V6-powered donuts at auto events since its debut in 2009.
Speaking of V6 engines, Renault says it's used a Nismo powerhouse making 500 bhp for this mighty machine. We're going to guess it's a highly tuned 3.7-liter V6 mounted centrally, right behind the driver. The Sport Trophy show car will also have a seven-speed sequential gearbox supplied by Sadev, specifically developed Michelin tires and a total weight of only 1.1 tons.
That has been made possible by the carbon monocoque chassis built by Dallara, a company that specializes in single-seater race cars, including ones made for IndyCar. They also manufactured a LMP prototype, so we should be in for something amazing.
The big question is: will this look like a Megane, like the only Trophy show car? Renault's statement and the teaser image seems to indicate the answer is "no".
"Renault is set to present a unique vehicle designed solely for competition," says the automaker. Could this be a preview for the Alpine sportscar, the design of which is reportedly approaching the final stages? We'll find out in August.
