Want a minter car from 1984 that nobody has seen, looks like crap bat costs about as much as a decent Audi A6 in good speck? How about this Renault R5 TURBO 2 for same by its Californian owner, who has infused the car with even more lunacy.
The car uses a rear-mounted turbocharged 1.4-liter engine that gives it the necessary poke to get to 60 mpg in just 6.7 seconds, which is impressive for a little box on wheels.
Only 500 or so of these were ever imported to the US between 1980 and 1985, and just over 3,500 were ever produced by the French carmarker. But considering how much the owner is asking for it on eBay, it has to be pretty special.
And with suspension mods from a rally car, a full roll cage and a racing radiator, it pretty much is. What’s more, the California sun has been kind to the car, and there are no signs of rust, including the floor pan.
