Renault F1 Teams Up with OMP Racing

The Renault F1 Team has signed a three-year technical partnership with OMP Racing, Italy-based motorsport equipment supplier. As part of the agreement, OMP Racing will provide safety equipment for the team’s cars, together with technical equipment and clothing for the drivers and mechanics. Maybe the most important contribution will be brought by OMP’s new weight-saving seatbelts. At the other end of the scale we find the last item mentioned on the official list, underwear for the team’s drivers and mechanics. We have to make it clear that we're not underestimating fireproof boxers' capabilities or anything here.

The aforementioned seatbelts have been developed by OMP over the last two years and are constructed from bespoke materials such as titanium alloy, aluminum and vanadium, along with a mix of steel, magnesium and ergal. Thus, they are providing safety while being ultra-lightweight, an attribute which is holly in Formula 1.

“We are delighted to join forces with OMP Racing as a technical partner of the team. Their expertise in providing high-end technical equipment is well suited to our requirements and the demands of Formula One. I’m confident that we will enjoy a productive and successful working relationship together in the years ahead.” Eric Boullier, Renault F1 Team Principal said, according to a press release from Renault.

We can be certain that the word “delighted” has a true meaning here, as the Renault F1 Team has lost its main sponsor, ING, after last years’s infamous Crashgate scandal.

Paolo Delprato, OMP vicepresident added: "This agreement with the Renault F1 Team represents more than just a simple return to the Formula One scene for OMP. It’s also an important milestone because, for the first time in its long history, the company has become a supplier not only of technical clothing, but also of a safety product that has been developed and created specifically for Formula One. This is a great achievement made possible by the excellent collaboration established with the Renault F1 Team and the skills of our employees and technicians. We are proud that the partnership will allow our products to be used once again at the pinnacle of motorsport and will contribute to the success of one of the leading names in motor racing.” said Paolo Delprato, vice president of OMP.

OMP Racing has a 35 year history in designing and manufacturing racing and tuning accessories, with a current portfolio of over 4,500 products.
