Renault used to say that it’s a French company, attached to its rooms and promoting a sort of joie de vivre attitude to making cars. But according to some rumors, they lose €1,000 for every Clio they made in France.
Now, with the arrival of the all-new Clio 4, that’s all about to change. The company has issued an official statement saying this cute supermini will be built simultaneously at the Flins plant in France and the Bursa factory in Turkey.

The Flins factory will soon also make the Zoe electric supermini, which Renault has said it wants to turn into a success story with hundreds of thousands sold.

Renault did not reveal exactly how production will be split, but we could be looking at base models in Turkey and more expensive and customized ones in France, together with the new Clio Estate, which should be at least €500 more expensive. If they get this gamble wrong, Flins will have leftover production that could cost jobs.

The engine range in France for the new Clio includes the TCe 90 petrol three-cylinder, a 900 cc unit that replaces a normally aspirated 1.4-liter powertrain. This delivers 90 PS and 135 Nm of toque. The economy-optimized version of the engine consumes only 4.3-liters of fuel and puts only 99 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

The diesel engine for the car is the 1.5 dCi 90, which now puts out 220 Nm of torque, 20 Nm more than the current dCi 90.
