red dot for Audi Communications Design

It takes more than just making and selling cars for a manufacturer to be recognized as an influential player on the market. It takes skill, lots of planning and, perhaps most of all, the best communications strategy and corporate image money can buy.

In the case of the Germans from Audi, their efforts to be visible and recognized as a premium brand have been noticed by the organizers of the red dot design awards. Created as a means to recognize and award innovative design and breakthrough thinking, the red dot for communication design went this year to the four-ringed brand.

“Audi AG is exemplary in its implementation of the brand’s core and its values such as progressiveness and sophistication in diverse media and communication channels,” Peter Zec, Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen managing director said in a statement.

The award went to Audi for several of its endeavors, including the manufacturer’s concept Audi Corporate Sound, the design of the show stands, interactive roadshow concepts and the brand’s appearances at Design Miami and Art Basel.

“We place a lot of emphasis on design in 3D because that offers us the most creative freedom,” added Lothar Korn, Head of Audi Marketing Communications.

Audi managed to get at the top of the list for the red dot awards after competing with no less than 6,369 other projects. In fact, because the carmaker is not at its first red dot award (Audi received more red dots than all other companies), the organizers decided to establish a new prize, “red dot: client of the year award,” which will be handed to the manufacturer on December 8.
