The Big Detroit Three automakers are currently dealing with an unprecedented unionized worker movement, but they are still trying to do their thing and bring more new models on the market.
I wonder why GM, Stellantis, and Ford's head honchos did not see this unprecedented strike coming after months and months of raising vehicle prices to engorge the profits – were the corner-office managers busy counting their fat bonuses? Anyway, in between all that, customers still want new cars, CUVs, SUVs, and trucks in the driveway, so somebody has got to do the work.
Chevrolet, for example, is busy trying to access the EV revolution as its Ultium-based plans haven't gone too well until now. As such, zero-emissions adopters are still waiting on the promised 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV, Blazer EV, and Equinox EV. Speaking of the latter, the battery-powered version, alongside the Blazer EV sibling and the mighty Silverado EV, have all introduced a new brand identity for the US automaker.
It's EV-centric, of course, and allows for subtle variations – especially when speaking of the front light bar incorporating the DRLs and headlights. Naturally, this new styling has attracted a lot of attention – maybe also because we saw all three Chevy EV representatives a while back, and we had ample time to think about each of them while waiting for the promised market arrivals. And that is also valid across the imaginative realm of digital car content creators.
For example, Jim, the virtual artist known as jlord8 on social media, continues to pendulate between resurrecting departed nameplates and old-school car CGI. He recently thought about stuff like a Geo Storm 454 SS, a couple of R34 GNX GT-Rs, or Rally plus Coupe versions of the Ford SHO, among others. As for the revivals, there are plenty of them, too: Buick Park Avenue 'Ultra' based on the 2023 Toyota Century sedan, Ford Crown Vic plus Mercury Grand Marquis, and a Lincoln Town Car based on the Bentley Flying Spur, things like that!
As for GM flavors, he brought the Chevy Lumina 'RS' back to life by mixing the regular Equinox with an Audi S8 limousine or the Chevy Chevelle based on a larger version of the Camaro. Now, he also remembered the Holden Commodore-based (VF generation) Chevrolet SS from 2014 to 2017 and decided it, too, needs a little CGI love (or hate, depending on your POV). Thus, he tried the new Chevy visage on the sporty four-door sedan.
However, the result is not satisfactory – out of the three options, he chose the worst, aka the Equinox EV, where the faults are more than apparent, like the bowtie being in the wrong place or the light bar feeling precisely like the one deployed on the facelifted Hyundai Sonata. If you want our two cents on the matter, the digital project would have been great if the author had used the Balzer EV as the starting point.
