Ram, the American brand focused on pickup trucks and utility vehicles, is reportedly working on a production model that will become the direct competitor of the Ford Raptor.
This September, Ram revealed a Hellcat V8 powered pickup truck, which was named Ram Rebel TRX. The vehicle was showcased as a concept, without any mention of a potential production model. However, the American truck maker made the prototype fully functional, and it operated without a hitch.
It was claimed that the Rebel TRX could drive at 160 km/h (100 mph) “anywhere.” Evidently, they did not mean it could handle on water, but any crossable terrain that does not have a pronounced slope or any other element that could hinder travel could be driven on at the specified speed.
This happened thanks to the heavy-duty suspension that was fitted to the Rebel TRX, along with the detuned Hellcat engine that still provided over 570 HP. The suspension itself has 37 inches of travel, which is 40% more than a standard Ram 1500.
If that does not impress you, it had 37-inch tires, and the vehicle seemed to be able to match and beat a Ford Raptor in just about any territory.
With over a month and a half since the moment it was first revealed, rumors have emerged that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has approved the development of a production version of the Rebel TRX Concept. While we do not have anything official on the subject, one could expect FCA to sell a production pickup truck inspired by the Ram Rebel TRX.
Even though V8 sourced from the Hellcat twins might not make it to production, it would not surprise us if it did. After all, Ram needs the numbers and bragging rights, while Ford would love a competitor in this segment. May the best souped-up OEM pickup truck win!
