Volkswagen has just revealed the production version of their turbocharged Jetta Hybrid. It is an interesting alternative to other more established hybrid offerings, from the US market, and currently the only hybrid on sale in the States which features a turbocharged engine.
With 150 hp from the 1.4-liter TSI unit, as well as an additional boost of 27 hp from the auxiliary electric motor, it is among the quickest hybrids on sale, as well, completing the benchmark sprint in just 8.6 seconds. Furthermore, with a total combined output of 170 hp and over 400 Nm (250 Nm from the engine and an additional 155 Nm from the electric motor), in-gear acceleration should be excellent, as well, despite the fact that the hybrid weighs some 100 kg more than the regular Jetta, tipping the scales at just under 1,500 kg.
Its electric engine and 1.1 kWh lithium-ion battery pack allow it to travel for up 2 km on electricity alone, at speeds of up to 70 km/h (44 mph). The car is now officially launched, yet no pricing information has been revealed so far - there are no plans to bring the car to Europe, though.
