Joined at the hip, the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT are recalled in the United States of America due to improper sealing of the high-voltage battery. Porsche was the first to become aware of this issue by means of reports alleging liquid intrusion.
As per documents filed with the federal watchdog by the German automakers, Draxlmaier introduced a Teroson sealant into the battery production process in September 2022 to improve sealing robustness. Be that as it may, Porsche continued to receive field reports alleging reduced insulation values following the introduction of the new sealant. Draxlmaier was much obliged to change the sealant in May 2023. Thus far, there haven't been any reports of liquid intrusion in Taycan vehicles produced with the enhanced sealant.

The problem, however, lies with the sealant implemented in September 2022. Audi e-tron GT and Porsche Taycan vehicles produced since then are most prone to liquid intrusion. Out of an abundance of caution, both Porsche and Audi decided to recall through August 2023. Over in the United States, the combined population is 6,676 vehicles, split between 4,777 examples of the 2023 model year Taycan and 1,899 examples of the 2023 model year e-tron GT. Performance-oriented Turbo S and RS e-tron GT vehicles are included. A sufficient accumulation of conductive liquid increases the risk of a battery fire due to arcing.

Both Porsche and Audi have instructed their dealers to conduct leak testing to find out whether the high-voltage battery needs to be resealed with the sealant introduced in May 2023. As per the attached safety recall reports, owner notifications will be made by first-class mail no later than October 31, 2023.

Based on the Volkswagen Group's J1 platform derived from the MSB of the Porsche Panamera, Bentley Continental GT, and Flying Spur, the Taycan carries a starting price of $90,900 in the United States at press time. The more practical Sport Turismo shooting brake-style wagon is $141,200 because it's exclusively available as the GTS. The even more practical Taycan 4 Cross Turismo retails at $101,900 (sans destination).

Two body styles can be had in Turbo S flavor, meaning 750 horsepower in overboost mode. Pricing is appropriately expensive at $194,900 for the sedan and $197,500 for the Cross Turismo.

As for the Ingolstadt-based automaker, the e-tron GT comes with quattro from the outset. Available as 2024 models, the e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT are going for $106,500 and $147,100. In a similar fashion to Porsche's Taycan Turbo S, quite a few sporty features are optional extras in the RS e-tron GT.

For example, all exterior colors except for Ibis White cost $595. The really expensive part begins with the Carbon Performance Package ($5,000) and Ceramic Brake Package ($7,100). If you want a full leather interior, that would be $4,500, thank you!
