The 2013 Cayman wasn’t the only brand new Porsche spotted testing by Toldi recently. The Macan compact SUV was also spotted out for a nighttime stroll, and this video tells us a few of its secrets.
The first statements from Porsche suggested the Macan was something amazing and sport, but it’s clearly not that at all. This prototype sounds like a softly tuned Audi TDI V6, not the sexy tiger ready to pounce on unsuspecting sportscars.

In fact, the Macan is built on a borrowed platform, with engines borrowed from Audi and styling borrowed from the Cayenne. We’re sure Stuttgart engineers have made it into a real Porsche, but it’s nothing more than a gap filler.

Much like the Cayman was designed to be worse at everything than the 911, so too will this be slower than a Cayman, but cheaper as well. And while the Cayman is mid-engined unlike the 911, this has no redeeming features. Even its hot “Turbo” version will be a V6.

Of course, if you’re a Porsche stock owner, the Macan looks like a golden nugget, since it’s expected to double the company’s sales in the next five years, from 118,867 deliveries in 2011 to more than 200,000 in 2018.
