The new-generation Porsche Macan is inching closer to its debut. But before that happens, the German carmaker shows design sketches of the front and rear of the upcoming EV. Nothing we have not seen before already. The sketches might be the final teaser before the official unveiling.
The second-generation Macan will be electric only. It is the brand's first model that will be sold exclusively with an electric powertrain, with more to follow in the near future. Porsche is planning on becoming an electric sports carmaker until 2030.

Michael Mauer, the Vice President of Style Porsche, says that the Macan must be clearly recognizable as a Porsche product but also be perceived as a new one, as he is counting on visual consistency throughout the portfolio.

The design team had to face quite a challenge in their attempt to keep the Macan familiar key design elements while also bringing innovative elements to the front.

There are three concepts that the Porsche team gravitated around: Focus, Tension, and Purpose. The Focus on the driver is one of them, as the brand's cars have always been tagged as fun to drive.

They also had to resist the trends coming into the field out of the blue and going away just as fast, in order to keep the identity of the brand. That's quite a complicated mission, considering that there are 200 people on the design team. That means 200 different design ideas.

Integrating the electric powertrain with the new design also posed a great challenge. The large battery causes a shift in the width-to-height ratio, while aerodynamics plays a key role in an electric car. The electric Macan will come with a 0.25 Cd value, which is expected to enhance the efficiency of the powertrain.

However, the team is not unfamiliar with all these issues. They have also designed the Taycan EV, the brand's first zero-emission car.

"Without giving too much away, the new Macan is very clearly a Porsche," Michael Mauer promises, highlighting that the EV sports a sharpened design both inside out and a sportier and more dynamic vibe.

For the past few months, we have been seeing several prototypes testing, with some of them barely sporting any camouflage.

The electric crossover sits on an entirely new architecture, the Premium Platform Electric (PPE), designed for EVs from scratch. Models such as the Audi A6 e-tron and the Audi Q6 e-tron are also underpinned by the PPE.

The range-topping Macan will have a dual-motor setup and will get 600 horsepower and 738 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) of torque. Porsche will equip the Macan with a large 100-kWh lithium-ion battery pack with fast charging capabilities.

If that is true or not, we will get to see on Thursday, January 24. That is when Porsche officially unveiled the Macan in Singapore. Tesla Model Y, brace yourself!
