...but would that make a Porsche still a Porsche? The German manufacturer sure hopes so. Despite the fact that last financial year's sales stood at about half that amount company's CEO, Michael Macht, is very optimistic.
"If the world economy picks up again, we can well imagine unit sales of 150,000 Porsche cars per year," he told Welt am Sonntag. Of course, to reach that goal, several other models need to be added to the range, as already hinted several times this year.
"But we won't achieve this with the four models that are existing today. Otherwise, we would have to significantly increase the number of cars of the current models. And then we would not be exclusive anymore. Therefore we have to think about new vehicles."
The most rumored vehicle to join the existing range is, according to rumors, an electric-powered sports car. Such an idea is to the liking of CEO Macht, who is "convinced that one day Porsche will have an electric sports car in its line-up." But will it be a Porsche?
The fact that Volkswagen is rumored to plan Panamera-based vehicles in the near future also adds to the fears that Porsche will slowly be diluted in the Volkswagen huge car pool. After all, Macht is "for integration."
"I am standing for integration instead of confrontation. This does not mean that my predecessor was the exact opposite. He very much could integrate, otherwise he would not have been that successful over so many years."
