Both the design and the engineering that Porsche does are evolutionary. They moved the engine a little bit closer to the driver, shave off a few kilos and play with the suspension every time. Just like a 2% interest on your bank savings, you barely notice it.
However, it all pays off in the long run. 2016 is the year you can collect your money because there's a turbo engine in the Carrera. Purists are going to be upset that the naturally aspirated, progressive nature of the car is ruined, but the 991.2 is going to be infinitely tunable and blisteringly fast, M4 fast, in fact.

Usually, turbocharged engines don't sound as good because the gasses are all mixed by the turbocharger. But if you buy the new 911 right now, Porsche will throw in a special exhaust system with valves and stuff. It sounds brilliant, so brilliant that most YouTubers agree it sounds better than the 996 Turbo.

Car Throttle Extra's quick exhaust comparison video proves it. But the net trolls just couldn't help say they'd still prefer owning the 996 or even the old 993. If you want the Porsche that wants to kill you, buy that!

As far as the performance is concerned, the 996 Turbo can be compared to the new 991.2 Carrera, and Carrera S. The super sportscar Porsche made between 2000 and 2006 pumped out 420 horsepower from a 3.6-liter engine and could reach 62 mph in 4.9 seconds with a manual gearbox. Meanwhile, the new Carrera has 370 hp from a 3-liter and takes 4.6 seconds to reach the same speed.

Part of it has to do with the superior traction of the new car and the wider torque band. But the old Turbo is also slightly heavier. Remember, we are talking about the cheapest version of the 991.2. A 4S with PDK and the Sport Chrono pack pushes into supercar territory with a 3.8s time.
