Porsche 928 Plans to Make an Entrance

The Stuttgart manufacturer is reportedly preparing the grounds for a new front-engined Porsche GT coupe, a supercar that will be part of the second-generation Porsche Panamera family. Porsche plans to release the new stunner after the replacement for the Panamera model sheduled for 2014/15.

The manufacturer readies the new GT coupe on a short-chassis version of the next Panamera model. As a plus, the two-door GT will attempt to embrace the looks of the 928 coupe from the late 1970s.

Porsche aims to enter a sector that has reached sales over 10,000 cars a year by releasing the new 928 possibly badged 929. The new model will meet tough competition like Aston Martin DN9, Bentley Continental and Ferrari California. Furthermore, the Porsche 929 is drawn as a coupe and a soft-top convertible.

Juliana Cho a student sponsored by Porsche, who has graduated from the vehicle design course at Royal College of Art, gives away some clues regarding the ideas being developed inside Porsche’s closed doors, under the close supervision of design boss Michael Mauer.
The new design direction heads towards more geometric lines which are to be completed by a much stronger-looking front end, related by the undermentioned source.

“At the moment, derivatives of the Panamera are not planned for the first generation. We hope to add them to the second generation, provided we can find necessary capacity,” a Porsche inside source was quoted as saying by autocar.co.uk.

We hope the new 928 GT will rise up to its forefathers greatness.
