The 991 incarnation of the Porsche 911 marked the return of the classic targa roof for the Neunelfer. Sure, the 997 that came before it also packed a Targa model, but the sliding glass roof of the replaced model was more of an extended sunroof than a true tribute to the air-cooled model that started it all.
And ever since the new Targa came around, enthusiasts have gone crazy thinking about the rumored Targa Turbo model. After all, since we're talking about the Neunelfer derivative that is the least friendliest to the scales, the added muscle of the Turbo badge could make sense.
Then again, Zuffenhausen won't allow the added weight to compromise the said moniker, which is why the hottest Targa you can buy is the GTS model. Nevertheless, thanks to the 991.2 mid-cycle revamp having marked the switch to turbocharged engines, the Targa 4 GTS now packs 450 horses.
However, it seems that not all owners of the cool-roofed 911 are satisfied with that the sportscar has to offer. Let's take the driver of the model in the images above, for instance - pixel tip to Autogespot for the pics.
The man apparently decided to add sugar, spice and everything nice to his Targa 4 GTS. By that, we're referring to a visual makeover that allows the rear-engined machine to pack a number of GT3 RS elements.
The treatment goes quite a long way, since we're talking about the front and the rear aprons, as well as the air extractor-including wings and the quarter panels, with their air intakes. Heck, even the wheels of this rear-engined animal were borrowed from the Rennsport Neunelfer.
Given the uncompromising track attitude of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, we wouldn't hold our breath for the German automotive producer releasing such a 911 melange anytime soon.
Nevertheless, it's amazing to check out a real-world mix like the one we have here, which is only rivaled by renderings such as that of the 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 Carbon Package.
