This weekend, all bets are off for PlayStation 5 and 4 players. Sony feels very generous, even though it's only for two days, and allows all users to play online multiplayer regardless of whether they're subscribed to PS Plus. That's not everything, though, because you'll also have the chance to compete in a quiz and win a brand new PS5 and a PS VR2 headset if you get five questions right.
Sony and Xbox are still duking it out in front of the FTC regarding the neverending saga of the Activision-Blizzard-King purchase. This debacle has been going on for so long that the consensus is to get it over with, so we can stop hearing about it every week.
In the meantime, let's take a win for the home team, meaning we, the players, and see what Sony has to offer while not in court.
First, there's the PS Plus Free Weekend which lets all users play their games in online mode. It's not enough to get the PlayStation 5 and buy a game like Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto Online. If you want to play online, you must subscribe to PlayStation Plus Essential, Extra, or Premium.
Essential is the cheapest tier but offers the bare minimum out of all three. After downgrading from Premium after six months, I'm delighted with PS Plus Essential, although this is a case-by-case.
So what's up with the Celebration event? It's pretty straightforward. You go on the PSN webpage, scroll down a bit, and on the left part of the page, you should see a "Join the PlayStation Plus Celebration" blue button to click. Then scroll down again, and you'll see the competition section.
You don't have to be a PlayStation expert or historian to answer. Though scrambled, everything is "hidden in plain sight" in the images to the quiz's left and in this article's image gallery.
Before I wish you good luck, ensure your country appears in the boring Terms and Conditions. You wouldn't want to waste your time for nothing if you can't technically win the contest.
