A little over a year ago, we wrote an editorial saying that if struggling European carmakers want to survive, they need to make small cars and/or crossover. While that wasn't a messianic attempt at predicting the future, it seems it's actually true.
French carmaker Peugeot has announced that its brand new supermini is already a hit with British buyers. The 208 is, of course, smaller and lighter than the 207 it replaces, while also being a much better design. So despite its relatively high price tag and the lack of small turbo engines, the French mini hatch is already the seventh best selling car in Britain.

The 208 was launched in the UK in June last year also entered the ‘Top Ten’ UK best sellers list at number 7 in January. So far, Peugeot UK has received some 23,000 orders for the car.

“2013 has started well, especially with the 208 continuing to build on the demand following launch and we are confident that with a healthy order bank going forward our sales success will continue,” said Neil Moscrop, Sales Director at Peugeot UK.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
