The RCZ used to be just another funny-looking Peugeot for posing on the high street, but now there's a new one, and it's an axe murderer. This, ladies and gentlemen, is the most powerful road-going Peugeot… ever.
The RCZ R was developed by Peugeot Sport, the same guys behind the T16 208 Pikes Peak car. The car has 270 PS just like say a Megane RS or an Opel Astra OPC. It's even got more power than the Golf GTI. You'd be forgiven for thinking that it's powered by a 2-liter engine, but it's actually got a 1.6-liter THP, same as a 208 GTi. At 270 PS (199 kW) and 330 Nm of torque, this has to be the highest specific output 1.6-liter engine on the road.

Since the RCZ R is still front-wheel drive, it's been equipped with a Torsen limited slip differential which will increase front end grip in the corners.

"All the strength of style of the RCZ is enhanced by the very dynamic performance and the 270bhp of this R version which will delight the enthusiasts of sports cars."  Xavier Peugeot, Peugeot Product Director.

The RCZ R is not only more powerful but also lighter, dropping 17kg compared with the regular model, weighing 1280kg, or about the same as a Clio RS. As such, 0 to 100 km/h takes just 5.9 seconds, down from the 7.5 of the THP 200.

"Downsizing is a logical approach, not just in production vehicles but is also happening at the forefront of Motor Sport, with the major disciplines soon to use a turbocharged 1.6-litre, and even Formula 1 is doing this in 2014!"  Cyrille Jourdan, Technical Manager, RCZ R.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
