Even though many camper vans follow similar layouts, there are still lots of ways you can get creative when building a tiny home on wheels. I love writing about different custom rigs, as we can observe the builder's personality in their projects. Today, I'm presenting a custom camper van conversion that has tons of character and fine attention to detail.
I've seen all sorts of styles when it comes to a camper's interior design, such as rustic, modern, Japandi, and more. However, this is the first time I stumbled upon a European cottage design. What we have here is a 2016 Ram ProMaster 3500 van converted by Anthony.

Right off the bat, Anthony shares that he's all about aesthetics – we'd have probably figured it out even if he didn't say it out loud once we got a glance at the interior. On the outside, this rig looks like your run-of-the-mill camper. It's finished in maroon paint, and you'll notice a window on its side, right next to a ladder.

But once you step inside, it becomes clear how much of a craftsman Anthony is. Wherever you look, you'll see wood. For instance, he used ipe wood for the ceiling. If you're like me, you probably have no idea what this type of wood is. It's one of the longest-lasting woods originating in Central and South America – one downside is that it's pretty heavy.

Pop the sliding door open, and you'll discover a tiny entryway with cabinetry on both sides. You'll notice that Anthony installed some shelves on the outer part of the furniture, which can come in useful if you're outside the van and need to grab something quickly. Moreover, a cabinet holds a propane tank.

Anthony chose a refreshing layout for his tiny home on wheels, completely separating the driver's cabin from the living space. Typically, van dwellers use an open format for their rigs or install a pass-through door to enter the driver's cabin from the interior. In this case, Anthony fitted a tiny window – funnily enough, the reason why he installed it is because he travels with his cat, and he wanted it to have a way to get in and out of the driver's cabin.

In this rig, you'll notice that the kitchen extends from the side to the front of the van. That's where you'll find a European-style sink, a shelf, a Dometic fridge, and a spacious countertop, as well as a vinyl floral wallpaper. Up above, Anthony added a ceiling fan.

The next part of this van is the seating area. It's pretty compact and boasts two benches with a swivel table in between. It's the perfect place to eat or work, especially since two plugs are integrated into the wall. The nice part is that it can be turned into an extra single bedroom – simply remove the table, attach it between the benches, cover them with the cushions, and you're good to go. However, it's quite tiny, about 5 feet (152 centimeters) long.

Of course, just like in many other camper conversions, this space underneath the benches has to be used. Anthony fitted a composting toilet underneath one of them while the other hides a 2.5-gallon (9.5-liter) water heater.

Interestingly, Anthony devised the shower at the front of the interior – it's got the bare essentials, as he says he takes military-style showers, meaning he washes quickly and without using a lot of water. Furthermore, all the water he uses is dumped directly underneath the van, so he showers using bio-degradable soap.

The side part of the kitchen features a decently sized countertop with a fold-up table extension, an oven with a three-burner stove, two overhead shelves, and various small add-ons, such as a spice rack, tiny shelves, and a knife holder. There are multiple drawers and cabinets underneath the countertop made of hickory wood.

The most unique part of this area is that Anthony added brickwork. It's only a thin part of the wall, made up of 3/4-inch (1.9-centimeter) thick bricks. He also integrated controls for the solar panels and the A/C.

Move deeper into the van, and you'll be in the bedroom. Two dividing walls on each side connect up top into an archway with a PVC edge that perfectly imitates old metal. You'll have to use a step to enter the bedroom comfortably.

This space features a bed with a memory foam mattress, beautiful wooden overhead cabinetry, a sound system, a skylight, and a spacious shelf. Moreover, there are two window frames, one on each side, with bricks in the background.

Underneath the bed, Anthony devised a garage accessible from the rear. The entire area is wrapped in Rhino Lining for extra durability and protection. You'll find the power system on the right side, consisting of two 100 Ah lithium batteries, a 2,000 W inverter, a DC/DC converter, and other components. It's connected to 400 W solar panels on the roof and can also be charged via a shore power connection.

On the opposite side, Anthony added the plumbing system – it features a 22-gallon (83-liter) freshwater tab, two filters, a water pump, and even an outdoor shower with an old-school faucet.

In the middle of the garage, Anthony installed a 500-lb. (227-kg) drawer slide, which can be transformed into an outdoor seating area, complete with two fold-up seats and a table. It's a really creative setup I haven't seen before.

As a European, I can wholeheartedly say he nailed the European cottage aesthetic. There are many tiny details that complete the look, such as baskets, decorative plates, and candles. One piece I must mention because I haven't seen anything like it is the door's floral decoration. Anthony left an empty space in the door, filled it with flowers and foliage, and covered it with glass – it's a superb detail.

All in all, this camper van conversion is not only unique and aesthetically pleasing, but it's also very practical, designed for full-time traveling. The attention to detail is mind-blowing, and the outdoor patio is the cherry on top.
