The Audi R8 GT is anything but new, but this doesn’t mean that its presence on the floor of the New York Auto Show didn’t enchant us. What’s not to worship about a stripped, more muscular R8 V10?
At the center of the car, we can find a V10 powerplant that delivers 560 hp and 398 lb-ft, with the power and torque being sent to all four wheels via a sharpened R-tronic robotized manual gearbox. The driver will be able to enjoy a power delivery distribution of 85/15 (rear/front), but this can reach 70/30 when the oversteer needs to be tamed.
The R8 GT only needs 3.6 seconds to complete the 0 to 62 mph sprint, with its top speed standing at 199 mph (319 km/h). But we forgot to remind you just how fit this car is. The diet it’s been through allows it to be 100 kg (220 lbs) lighter.
“The R8 high-performance sports car has been a winner from the very beginning. This applies to both the production models, winners of the "World Performance Car" Award in 2008 (R8) and in 2010 (R8 V10), and to the race car, the R8 LMS, which won 23 races in its first season and claimed three championships. The genes of the race version are now coming to the street - in the Audi R8 GT,” a company statement reads.
Audi is only allowing a limited number of mortals to enjoy the charms of the R8 GT. Make sure you’re one of the 333 lucky individuals who gets to put its pedal to the metal.
