A terrible blow was received by Audi Motorsport about an hour ago during Le Mans practice, when the R18 e-tron quattro driven by Loic Duval crashed in a rather spectacular fashion on the famous Porsche Curves.
The information about the crash is very limited so far, but according to Audi's head of Motorsport Wolfgang Ullrich, Loic Duval isn't severely injured, he is conscious and talking, albeit he is currently still under observation by the medical team.

He will be transferred to a hospital for complete check-up later on, but his overall condition seems to be alright.

The hybrid diesel racer on the other hand is pretty much a write-off, thus raising the question if Audi will now be left with only two cars for the actual Le Mans 24 hours race this weekend.

It is not known yet what caused the accident, but the footage with the wreckage seems to show that the R18 e-tron quattro either somehow went airborne before the Porsche Curves or it simply lost control and hit the protection barrier with its rear end.

As the Ingolstadt manufacturer was the only one sporting three cars on the grid, if their number one car (driven by Loic Duval, Tom Kristensen and Lucas di Grassi) is missing they will dramatically decrease their chances at a win.

If the monocoque chassis is in good shape, the car could be rebuilt until Saturday, but if it isn't it pretty much leaves Audi with the same amount of vehicles as their competitors from Porsche and Toyota. We will let you know if any new reports about the subject come up.
