Porsche's cars have steadily become more and more impressive over the years. Their growth is linear, an evolution that's as predictable as it is impressive. In 1986, they launched a new flagship model called the 959, which had a selectable all-wheel drive and a twin-turbo engine, all of them features we consider normal today. Through the sands of time, a line can clearly be drawn to predict the next decade of evolution, from the iconic 917 race cars of the past, through the 919 Le Mans racer and the 918 hybrid.
This one shot captures it all with three gorgeous Porsche cars sitting together as a family. At the middle of it all, the 918 Spyder, the first of what could potentially be many hybrid sportscars. It all depends on that other car sitting on its right (yep, that's the left in the picture). If the new 919 manages to somehow top Audi's R18 and win some big Le Mans races this year, hybridization can be made to look cool.
Of course, the 919 has some big shoes to fill, since the 917 is one of he most famous race cars ever made. It's about as easily recognized as that baby blue and orange Gulf racing livery.
A decade from now, we're going to look at the 918 and say it was as forward thinking as the 959. But my God, is this a sexy shot or what?!
