Best known for his role as the neurosurgeon Dr. Derek Shepherd on the ABC soap Grey’s Anatomy, Patrick Dempsey is also a race enthusiast. After filming the "Patrick Dempsey: Racing Le Mans" mini-series, the actor announced that he will reunite with Joe Foster and Patrick Long for the 82nd edition of the world's oldest sports car race (June 14–15). On the top of all that, the movie star is a really nice person, being involved in a lot of philantropy actions.
When he is not busy filming documentaries like "Racing Le Mans" he is very dedicated to helping people that are fighting cancer. One of the movies he produced is The Peloton Film, a documentary that follows 39 riders, 2,500 miles (4,300 km), from Calgary Alberta to Lewiston Maine in just 10 days.

The 48-year old Hollywood actor is one of the sex-symbols housewife crave for while watching the ABC soap being one of the most talented actors out there. And when he is not acting all McDreamy in Grey’s Anatomy nor playing in blockbusters like 2011’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon, this fellow right here is crazy about cars.

Dempsey has competed in prestigious pro-am events such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Rolex 24 at Daytona sports car race and Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 off-road race. In fact, Dempsey admitted he would switch his acting career with racing if he could, and would dedicate himself full-time to motor sports.

This year he will be returning in the LM GTE Am class with Dempsey Racing-Proton for the second-consecutive year in a new Porsche 911 RSR.

And just when you think you’re looking at yet just another Steve McQueen or Paul Newman it hits you. This celebrity is just not like all the others out there. Patrick Dempsey is actually the producer of The Peloton Film, an breath-taking emotional cancer documentary soon to get on the screens. The goal of the ride is to raise awareness about those who are touched by cancer, to spread the hope that you can beat the terrible disease, and to raise support for cancer care in their community.

This film follows the lives of 39 cyclists as they prepare to take on this year’s Cancervive Peloton Project. The team members trained for a year while raising support for cancer care in their community. On October 2nd, they embarked on the 2,500-mile (4,300 km) journey from Calgary, Alberta, Canada to Lewiston, Main for the Dempsey Challenge. They had to complete the ride in just 10 days, cycling relay-style day and night.

And this is not the only thing this celebrity does to help the people in pain. In 1997, Dempsey’s mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, which subsequently relapsed five times. On March 24, 2014, his mother died in Lewiston, Maine, at the age of 79.

In response, the actor helped start the Patrick Dempsey Center at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. In October 2009, when he introduced the first Dempsey Challenge, registration was closed after reaching the goal of 3,500 cyclists, runners and walkers. The event raised more than $1 million (EUR 740,000) for the cancer center. His mother was in the crowd as Dempsey finished his 50-mile ride.
