Nissan Turns Patrol Engine into V8 Supercars Race Unit

Nissan recently unveiled the brand new racing engine that will be used by their motorsport division for their 2013 four-car factory-backed V8 supercar team. The automaker will use the series to promote the 2013 Altima sedan and to raise awareness for the brand.
The engine use is the one one in the series that’s also used by a production car. It’s the VK56DE unit used by the 2013 Patrol SUV and Infiniti FX50. The VK series has served them well, also being used by 11 of the 18 LMP2 cars at this year’s Le Mans 24-hour endurance race.

TO conform to V8 Supercars championship regulations, the engine has had to be reduced in capacity from 5.6- to 5.0-litres.

Ford and Holden are also taking next year’s competition quite seriously, so the series could become quite heated.
