Wobbly Nissan Quashqai Steering Wheel Annoys Finns

While Nissan may not be the world leader in car build quality (no manufacturer can really be called that, anyway), but grabbing the steering wheel more firmly, even pulling your entire body weight while wedged on it, should not cause it to move at all.

However, for a Finnish camera operator working for a Helsinki TV station, Kari Alentola, things took a turn for the shocking and unbelievable while he was adjusting the position of the seat, while holding onto the steering wheel. However, something clearly must have snapped, because the next thing he knew, the wheel had landed on his lap. Extensive wear and tear were also not the culprits, as the car had only 500 km (310 miles) on its odometer. This may be a real blow for Nissan’s credibility in Finland (and elsewhere, as well), especially considering the fact that the Quashqai is the northern European country’s top selling car in July.

Taina Erkkilä, the regional communications manager said "A plant engineer came from England today who disassembled the car. He took parts off it, packed them up, sent them to England and followed then himself. This is now Nissan's number one priority and the European plant is investigating what can cause this defect [. . .] This is terribly unfortunate. We are relieved that the incident caused no harm to anyone. We are taking this really seriously. Safety issues are important to us and we want to get to the root of this matter.
