Just like the rest of the companies selling cars in the US, Nissan is planning to rely more on small vehicles and, as a result, the Japanese manufacturer is developing two small cars to be priced below $10,000. There are only a few details available at this point but Autonews writes that both models will be based on Nissan's new global V platform that will replace the Mica subcompact.
Yet to be nicknamed, the two models will be smaller than the Versa, the aforementioned source wrote.
“The V platform will be sourced in Mexico," said Carlos Tavares, Nissan's chairman for the Americas. “I think $10,000 is a good point. As you know, there are very few new cars sold at that price point in the United States. It is too early to tell you the (standard) equipment in those cars,” he said. “The only thing that we can tell you is that we will hold that price point.”
Meanwhile, Nissan is also working on the production version of the Juke crossover that will be showcased at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Based on the Qazana concept revealed one year ago, the Juke will be manufactured in the UK and will go on sale across Europe in October.
"We're confident that Juke will bring a new generation of customers to Nissan, in the same way that Qashqai did. Our philosophy of challenging conventions with Qashqai has been a huge success. We've just reached the 500,000 landmark and we're applying many of the lessons learned from Qashqai to Juke. We're confident we'll have another success on our hands," said Nissan Europe sales and marketing head Simon Thomas.
