Nissan Qashqai Sales Top 1 Million Units Globally

Through a press release that came straight from the company’s Yokohama base of operations in Japan, Nissan Motor Co announced today that its global sales of the Qashqai crossover have topped one million vehicles as of January 31th. The landmark number has been reached only four short years after the debut in January 2007.

After its arrival on the European market that year, the Qashqai arrived the same year in Japan (known as the Dualis there), followed by Africa, the Middle East, Oceania, Asia, and Latin America.

“Qashqai is clearly the pioneer when it comes to ‘Compact Crossovers’, setting the trend that others in the industry follow. It’s balance of key SUV attributes like robust design, roomy interior and higher driving position combined with the benefits of a hatchback such as great fuel economy, compactness and driving dynamics, resonates well with customers around the world,” said Guillaume Masurel, Nissan’s Global Chief Marketing Manager for Qashqai.

The European model has been updated in March 2010 with refreshed design, improved fuel economy and emissions. As a result, it continues to sell well, and has been a mainstay of Nissan’s European lineup for four consecutive years. What’s more, it has won several ‘Car of the Year’ awards in numerous countries.

“Combining the innovative concept with customer-oriented technology features, the Qashqai clearly demonstrates Nissan’s unique approach to meet customers’ changing expectations of their cars,” Masurel also added.

The car is currently produced in the Sunderland factory in the UK, the Kyushu factory in Japan, and in Dongfeng Nissan’s Huadu Plant and Zhengzhou Nissan’s No. 2 Plant in China.

Here are the cumulative sales figures as of January 31st, 2011:
  • Europe  759,370
  • UK  111,088
  • Italy  103,647
