The world’s first all-wheel drive crossover convertible is finally here. Nissan has released full photos and details of its 2011 Murano CrossCabriolet that will go on sale early next year.
The transformation of the Murano body from Crossover to CrossCabriolet has made it lose not just its roof but also a pair of doors. The two new doors were redesigned to be 7.9 inches (20.1 cm) longer than standard and eliminate the need for a B-pillar, thus strengthening the structure of the vehicle. The Murano now has a cloth convertible top that also includes a rear glass skylight, thus creating a more open interior environment when the top is in closed position. Dual Pop-up Roll Bars are also standard, to ensure the safety of the occupants if the car rolls over.
Murano CrossCabriolet exterior features also includes High Intensity Discharge (HID) xenon headlights, front fog lights and Nissan 370Z-inspired LED taillights. Other key features include chrome door handles, body-colored dual power/heated outside mirrors, and rear window defroster with timer. The CrossCabriolet comes in six unique colors: Sunset Bronze, Caribbean,Merlot, Platinum Graphite, Super Black and Pearl White.
"When people think of a crossover, they think of a combination of the driving sophistication of a sedan with the utility of a sport utility. This new Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet adds an unexpected third element, the ability to make everyday activities more exciting with open air driving," said Al Castignetti, vice president and general manager of Nissan's North America division. "However, with its extraordinarily engineered convertible top, standard all-wheel drive and room for four adults plus cargo, the CrossCabriolet is not just for cruising South Beach or Malibu. It's a vehicle to take to lunch, running errands or on a long ski weekend in any part of the country."
The 2011 Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet was revealed today at Los Angeles Show. It only comes with one engine option, a 3,5 liter V6 AWD priced at $46,390 (EUR34,112). The DOCH engine which packs 265 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque features Nissan's variable Induction Control System (NICS), twin knock sensors, low exhaust pressure, a 10.3:1 compression ratio, and red-lines at 6,000 rpm. Options for the new model include: Carmel interior $500 (EUR367), Cashmere & brown top interior $500 (EUR369) and splash quads $125 (EUR92).
