Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet to Star in LA

A week or so ago, a very unexpected news surfaced in the US, after one of the dealers who attended a private Nissan event in Las Vegas, let the world know that the Japanese manufacturer will be releasing next year a cabrio version of the Murano crossover.

That news got a bit more substance today, after word of the cabriolet version being shown at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show next week came to our years. And according to Inside Line, the convertible version of the crossover even has a name: CrossCabriolet.

There is little information available on the subject, but what we know so far is that, despite the strange combination between a crossover and a convertible, the car looks better than expected. Apparently, it will use a traditional soft top, mostly because it is more cost effective.

Under the hood, the car is likely to hide a 3.5l V6 engine which develops 265 horsepower. The engine will be mated to a Nissan CVT, with both front- and all-wheel drive systems to be developed.

Unfortunately, if we are to trust the words of the carmaker's vice president in the States, Brian Carolin, the great looking CrossCabriolet will not get the big production numbers other strange Nissan models get.

"It's not going to be a volume car," Carolin said earlier this month. "But there's a degree of bravery for us to bring out a car like that right now. It will surprise a lot of people."

More information on the Murano CrossCabriolet is expected to be released shortly.
