The North American division of Japanese manufacturer Nissan announced today the 2011 model year of the Murano will be available at Canadian dealerships starting October, in four equipment levels: S AWD (new), SV AWD, SL AWD and LE AWD.

The crossover will come equipped with the VQ-series 3.5l DOHC V6 engine, good for 260 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque. The unit works in conjunction with systems already fitted by Nissan on most of the lineup, including Xtronic CVT, Intuitive All-Wheel Drive system, standard Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) and Traction Control System (TCS).

Besides the exterior changes, which include revised front headlights, a wide hood, pronounced wheel arches and an aggressive stance, the Japanese manufacturer tweaked the vehicle's interior as well. It added a new white metre color, new centre stack colors and new equipment to various trim levels.

Depending on the version, the Murano can come with RearView Monitor, heated steering wheel, standard iPod connectivity, Bluetooth, Bose audio system with nine speakers plus dual subwoofers touch screen Nissan Navigation System with 9.3GB Music Box hard drive and driver's seat with power lumbar support.

"With its contemporary exterior design, 'mobile suite' interior, advanced technology and refined, premium driving feel, Murano stands out as a modern crossover SUV like no other,
" said Mark McDade, director for Marketing at Nissan Canada.

"With the enhancements for 2011, there are even more reasons for consumers to put Murano on the top of their shopping lists."

Prices for the new Murano incarnation have not yet been announced, but they are expected to be made public in the following days.
