Nissan’s Micra subcompact could return to the North American market after 22 years, Auto Guide announced today, claiming the Japanese automaker is already touring the vehicle to Canadian dealer meetings alongside the new Rogue.
The Micra, which will have to fight segment rivals such as the Chevrolet Spark, the Fiat 500, the Ford Fiesta or the Scion iQ, could go on sale in North America in mid-2014 with a supercharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engines that delivers 100 HP.
Contacted by our source, a Nissan spokesperson declined to comment the information, just saying the company hasn’t made an official announcement about the Micra crossing the Pond to North American shores.
The first-generation Nissan Micra, also known as K10-J, was sold in Canada from 1985 until 1991, when it was replaced by the Nissan Sentra Classic. Nissan no longer offers subcompact cars in North America since 2007, when the larger Versa was introduced.
