How do automakers deal with the soaring Japanese yen? Usually, they don’t, they just pack it in and move shop to wherever the cars they made in Japan are sold. Such is the case with the Nissan Murano, which could soon be produced in Tennessee, at the Smyrna plant where the Alitma and Maxima sedans are made.
According to a report made by Japan’s Nikkan Kogyo newspaper, the shift of production from Japan to the US will come in 2014, with the arrival of the next generation, the third one to be made for the Murano SUV name. The same factory will also produce the Rogue crossover (European Qashqai) when the new one arrives for the 2014 model year.

Since 70 of all the Muranos built sold in the US, the move to make Tennessee a hub of assembly will increase Nissan’s profitability.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
