Selling hatchbacks in Europe is not about having the biggest TV screens or the sportiest suspension setup, just ask the VW Golf, it’s about having the most economical engines, especially diesels ones.
The best selling points of the new Honda Civic hatchback were always going to be the styling and the aerodynamic body. But the engine range basically remained unchanged from the old car.

But soon, this five-door hatchback will be offered with a brand new 1.6-liter i-DTEC turbodiesel, the first engine to be of Honda's Earth Dreams Technology series in Europe.

A Honda Civic with the new 1.6 diesel will be shown at the Paris Motor Show, ahead of going on sale in October. It will offer 120 PS of power at 4,000 rpm and 300 Nm of torque from 2,000 rpm. It will also help the Civic return 3.6 l/100km combined (78 mpg UK). and emit only 94 g/km of CO2.

autoevolution will be attending the Paris Motor Show 2012, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
